note: This opal was screened out of the tailings from the original Rainbow Ridge Mine (they are currently digging at the Rincon Belle) in the summer of 2002.  The rough was cut into three pieces.  This particular piece is twelve and a half carats . It has been completely stable since it was cut in the spring of 2003.  It is N1 (true black) with color throughout; showing all the colors of the spectrum.  While it is true that a significant percentage of Virgin Valley opal  will craze if dried too quickly; it obviously doesn't happen to all of it.
