Some believe the name is from the German quartz, of uncertain origin; others believe the name is derived from the Slavic word kwardy, "hard".

Quartz is a common mineral that comes in a wide array of colors.1  One interesting property of quartz is that it is piezoelectric (capable of producing opposite electrical charges when pressure is exerted upon both ends of a crystal)

Quartz has seen many uses down through time. Many peoples have believed this stone has healing powers, today it is considered the most versatile multi-purpose healing crystal.  Quartz is thought to be a protective stone for women and children.  It is used as a meditation stone to help focus intentions and clarify thought.  It is also a cleanser, energy balancer and a psychic amplifier.

"Quartz crystals can be used to amplify both body energy and thoughts.  They can assist in the creation of power and can procide for clarity in thinking to enable thoughts to more effectively influence matter." 2

Quartz crystal is one of the birthstones for April.
