Sunstone
Sometimes known as aventurine feldspar, sunstone is named after a a type of glass that was discovered about 1700. This member of the feldspar group contains tiny hematite or goethite plates that reflect light in a beautiful effect called shiller, typically orange/red but also in greens and blues. Sunstone is the state gem of Oregon Lore "It is widely accepted that the Vikings used the sun and stars in their navigation but cloud would have been a problem. In the sagas there are passing mentions of a 'sunstone' by which the pilot could determine the position of the sun even through clouds." 1 Sunstone bolsters one's energy level, particularly sexual energy. It also alleviates stress and is known to rejuvenate a person's health. "Yellow sunstone has an affinity for the solar-plexus chakra and removes stress, anxiety, and fear from this energy center, suffusing it with light. An uplifting crystal, yellow sunstone fills you with love and laughter, as well as increasing your confidence, boosting your self-esteem, and inspiring optimism."2 "In ancient Greece, it was thought to represent the sun god, bringing life and abundance to those fortunate enough to carry/wear it. It was often used as an ornamental on goblets and plates and was believed to counteract poison and to produce strength." 3
